Stunning Storm over Black Hawk

Caught a nice storm last night with Aaron Woodward.  He was able to track the storm from our phones and get us to the perfect spot to sit and watch for nearly an hour as it sat and spun above Black Hawk, South Dakota. Just outside of Rapid City.  I had a hunch it would be a good one to try to capture time-lapse but I wasn’t as prepared as I should have been. I was able to makeshift a stand for my iPhone by using a hair tie to attach it to my tripod. I set it up and just let it roll for about an hour while we ran around and clicked and watched in awe. We weren’t alone long. After about 10 minutes other cars started to roll in and take up residence next to us. Turns out it was THE storm of the day and we later spotted dozens of other storm crews who had chased it up from hundreds of miles away.

The video has been shown on MSNBC this morning (see here on NBC), Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Weather Channel, Weather News Network, Reuters and here is a  write up in the Argus Leader .
